what are the ONYX line of products?

ONYX Beauty Systems Inc. manufactures UV Gels used for artificial nail enhancements. The ONYX line of products consists of: UV Gel Nail Enhancement Essentials, UV Gel Colors & Glitters , Prep Products & Tools, Brushes & Art Tools, Implements, & Accessories.

do I need to be a licensed Nail Professional to purchase the ONYX line of products?

For the safety of you and your clients, it is mandatory to be a certified Nail Professional in order to purchase the ONYX line of products.

are the ONYX UV Gels Hypoallergenic?

ONYX UV Gels are NOT 100% Hypoallergenic. The reason is, chemicals are used in all UV Gels, as a result anyone who uses these products is at risk for obtaining allergies. However, ONYX has attempted to minimize your risk in reducing harmful chemicals in the ingredients of the UV Gel. Make note: using proper application techniques can minimize your risk of obtaining allergies.

can I use ONYX UV Gels in combination with other UV Gel Lines?

Yes, ONYX UV Gels can be used in conjunction with other UV Gel Lines. However, ONYX has not tested its products with every product on the market and does not ensure a perfect enhancement when used with other products. ONYX recommends using the complete ONYX system, this also will help ONYX in trouble shooting for you.

are the ONYX UV Gels self-leveling?

Yes, all the ONYX UV Gels are self-leveling.

are the ONYX UV Gels non-yellowing?

Yes, however in extreme conditions (such as tanning beds) the Complete (3 in 1, base, overlay & finishing gel) will absorb the rays to keep the entire enhancement from yellowing.

do the ONYX UV Gels have heat transfer?

Yes, ONYX UV Gels do have minimal heat transfer as the chemical reaction that occurs during freezing/curing does cause heat transfer. However, heat transfer is minimized in application. As a result, Apply ONYX UV Gel in thin layers and FREEZE for a short 5 seconds for a damaged nail.

when applying Complete as a finishing layer, how do I ensure the Ultimate Shine?

For your finishing layer, be sure to apply Complete in one even heavier layer, taking care to have no tissue contact.

when applying, Edge Bright, it does not FULLY cure, why is this?

When applying ANY "white" UV Gel, apply in very THIN layers. The more opaque the white, the more difficult to achieve a full cure. A tip: Always use TRANSPARENT FORMS when applying ANY white, as UV Light easily penetrates TRANSPARENT FORMS to thoroughly cure the gel, this will also aid in eliminating curing issues.

when applying Sculpt, I notice tiny "bubbles" in the finished nail, why is this?

This is because Sculpt is a heavier viscosity, it is important to keep the brush in contact with the product at all times. Using this floating technique will ensure minimum air is pumped into the product during application.

do the ONYX Colored Gels offer support to the nail?

No, the ONYX Colored Gels do not offer any support to the nail. The consistency is similar to Nail Polish, therefore, be sure to completely sculpt and support your nail prior to color application with the ONYX Product of your choice.

can I get a crisp smile line with ONYX Colors?

It is possible, however, colored gels do not offer the same self-leveling capabilities as the ONYX Enhancement Essentials. Creating that perfect smile line with ONYX Colors takes time to get the hang of, however, it can be done!

do the ONYX glitters come pre-mixed with UV Gel?

Yes, all ONYX glitters are pre-mixed with UV Gel for you, as a result the ONYX Glitter Gels do provide nail support.

should I stir ONYX Colors & Glitters UV Gels prior to application?

Yes, be sure to stir ONYX Colors & Glitter UV Gels prior to application, as it will ensure even distribution of color or glitter pigment.

what is ONYX Prime Acid Free? does it perform better than acid-based primers?

ONYX Prime Acid Free promotes natural nail plate to gel adhesion creating the "sticky" base and natural nail plate dehydration - without the common irritations of acid. If used properly, Prime Acid Free will perform equally, if not better, than methacrylate acid-based primers, with a bonus: no skin corrosion or irritation.

why do my clients nails start to lift from the cuticle area or peel within a few days?

Remember there is no benefit to added thickness at the cuticle area. So going thinner in this area will usually not cause any support issues.

when using the ONYX line of products, what type of UV Lamp should I use?

ONYX UV Gels can be cured with any student or standard sized lamp. One 9 Watt Bulb will cure the gel. However, when providing a complete service to a customer, it is recommended to use a standard size lamp (consisting of four 9-watt bulbs) - be sure to look inside the lamp to see where the bulbs are situated - ensure the bulbs are in place to provide the full hand cure coverage.
